VCR Project

Snippet from an article

Im going through my 2024 memories and I remembered I did a vcr video during hanbin's first solo concert in KL. If you didnt know already- hanbin is my fav person in the world (lol)

First of all, if you ask me what is vcr, i'll explain. I dont know what it stands for but vcr is basically videos that fill concert gaps. You know when the artist went for a break or outfit change, they will play something on the big screens for the audience? So that is vcr. Basically, in kpop concerts, it is common to have fanmade video played on the screen as a suprise for the artist. It is obviously not a suprise anymore since almost every fandom did it. and every country hanbin went to, have short videos for him. It was kinda expected.

This is his second solo tour, Malaysia was excluded from his first one, so I, mean we, were kinda disappointed. But I know there's a problem with the whole planning thing. So while other countries were planning on their videos, I decided to participate in one of them. In Singapore one, to be specific. They made a nice touching video with all of the fan's message on it. It was touching and well made. I love it. To see my note on the big screen and seeing him reacting to it felt awesome. and it was about the same for all country. All was heartfelt and kinda sad. Nothing bad about it though.

So I told myself, if hanbin come to malaysia, i'll make sure to take the wheel and not make him sad or anything. I know his humor, my idea will definitely make him laugh. im, 40% confident and 60% anxious. I right away told the malaysia fanbase, I VOLUNTEER to do the video later. I'll do it FOR FREE. and we had a deal.

When I told ppl i did the video, they were all like, "what?? you did the video?? that was played in the concert hall? on the big screens?" "Kau orang kuat fandom ke??"

no im not guys. If i want it, I just reach it out. I dont care anymore.

A year after, right after he annouced his second tour, found out malaysia was in the list, I jumped off my bed, and contacted them back, "I'LL DO THE PDF PROPOSAL ASAP", and they will propose it to the event organiser and Hanbin's management team, together with the other fan projects.

I contacted Amanda, my fellow hanbin fan, to collaborate with me on this project cause I dont think I can do it alone. We decide on what to do, the concept, the timeline, copywritting and everything and boom passed the project plan to them.

Thankfully they approved it. Hanbin's team agreed to it, and the event organiser agreed to proceed with 10 minutes video.

The decided concept was to answer witty questions abt hanbin and compile it all in one video. sounds easy. but how do we make it funny was the question.

Okay, me and amanda quickly broadcast the project, and gather all ID's video in one place. thankfully i have 2TB google drive storage hahaha.

Amanda was in charge of the copywritting, the brilliant ideas, helping me with questions from other fans. I had to do the editing. Also, my place to get reviews and let out all my anxieties.

"What if he doesnt laugh?" "Will the fans love it?" "are they gonna be mad at me if they're not in the video?" "do you think this song is okay?" "is this too cringe" "should i cut this out?" "is he really gonna laugh?" - thanks Amanda <3

I had all the visions in my head and ready to execute it all.

It took me solid 3 sleepless days to compile everything, edit, cut off some parts, add some subtitles, add some intros and ends, add some effects, choose the perfect background song, think, think and think. I NEED TO MAKE HIM LAUGH. No pressure.

I sent the video out to the eo, and hanbin's team.

Remember they agreed to proceed with 10 mins? The video I made during the 3 days was edited to 10 minutes to ONLY have them came back to me saying it's too long and they will only allow 5 mins.

WHAT.

If you think I can just cut off the video duration like that, no youre wrong. I need to re-edit everything back, pick some questions to remove, edit some people out etc. That was 2 days added.

I sent it back.

To only have them come back again to me, with not more than 3 minutes allowed. and some parts i need to cut out. Yeah, bcs hanbin's team reviewed the video everytime and told me to remove some questions out or change some questions.

WHAT 2.0

I decided to bypass the organiser, cause i sus with them. So I directly contact hanbin's team and appealed my case. whyyyy? we were excluded last year and we deserve to have longer slot. and shockingly, quickly, they replied back, “every country has only 3 minutes time so we are trying to be fair”

Okay......fine......

That was another edit process for 1 whole day.

I sent it again for the last time. It was around 3.40 minutes long. Please accept it please accept it pleasee.

…….And they accept it. Yes. What was left is to wait till concert day and see his reaction. (yikes, what if he doesnt like it)

D-Day

Concert day!

It was the concert day, and as per every concert day, it was chaos. People queuing up, running around meeting their friends, buying merchandises, exchanging freebies, taking pictures, dancing..it was an exciting atmosphere.

The only pic i have that i took of him LOL

I usually went alone because its much faster moving. ppl dont know i'm, me : ) they only know me through my twitter username. But i know them, i just kept quite and decided to just stay by myself. We're all his fans anyway. we have something in common and im safe. tiba

We went into the cold hall. Greeted with these giants screens i was shocked and got nervous. I msg-ed Amanda right away "are they gonna play our video on that big ass screens??" damn. My work is gonna be on that, not one, 5 big screens, with the loudest sound system ever. I got nervous, thinking how will hanbin and the fans receive it.

The concert was fun, it was 3 hours? and 1 hour of encore? i dont remember. All I remember was we had fun. Hanbin was so cool. He sang all his best songs. and all of my favorite songs (read: all).

After the concert, there was encore. So, encore is a post-concert performance. After the actual concert with all the planned setlist and set and dance, artists are free to go up the stage again and do more performances freely with any songs they want to spend more time with the fans. It depends on the artist. Some do, some dont. but hanbin will definitely do. Audience are free to leave the hall atp. His encore is actually more fun than his actual concert. Cause he'll play unreleased songs, more songs for hours.

So, the vcr was planned to play at the start of encore. He went up the stage again, performed 2 songs, and suddenly the video started playing behind him.

"oh gosh" my heart dropped. I was dead nervous. I am in the crowd, no one know its me who did it. The cameraman captured his reaction and it was put side by side with the video. So we can see the video, and his reaction at the same time.

I became smaller and smaller in the crowd while watching his reaction. I remember very vividly, the nervous yet awesome feeling of it. When he laughed and the audience laughed, I smiled. (i laughed at that part 100 times while editing). Then he laughed again, the audience followed. and laughed and laughed again. I smiled throughout the time. Also mad at myself bcs i saw some errors in the edit. Feeling relieved that he laughed and Ive reached my goal!

"Haha, this is so fun, you made it very well" - Hanbin commented after the video ended.
"Eeeeeeeeeeeeekk!!!!" -I screamed inside.

SUCCESS

I cant help but feeling soooo proud of myself. like, this is the best achievement in my fangirling world ever. I really am glad that the fans love it too. they said its funny lol well. The whole week editing it was so worth it. Definitely would do it again, (if i can).

AND i can self certify that my humor code and hanbin's humor code match well. No objection. Thanks. gurau

The end. One of my best story this year.
